Sweet Pea Snapshots

image

Evening all! Can I offer you a cup of tea? My lovely aunt came into possession of the most delightful Royal Winton tea set in Sweet Pea and very kindly gifted it to me. It is positively divine and I love every sip from it. I have a feeling that you will be seeing these pop up frequently from now on!

image

The weather has been up and down this week. Beautiful sunshine, some much needed rain and a few grey, chilly mornings which have allowed us to wrap ourselves in the cosy blankets around the place. It makes me so happy to see them being put to good use.

image

Even my Summer Garden Granny Throw was put to work as an impromptu picnic blanket.

image

There has been a pleasing amount of crochet happening here at the moment. My South Bay Shawlette is coming along slowly but surely (the pattern can be found on Ravelry). The yarn is Drops Baby Alpaca Silk and is a dream to work with.

image

Don’t you just love a bit of al fresco hooky? My Crochet Mood Blanket 2014 has become a 2015 mood blanket but I am loving choosing which colour it is to be each day.

However the most exciting news of this week has to be from Little Lady. Drumroll please…my little poppet is now eating!

image

Yes, weaning take 2 has begun. I cannot believe how well she has taken to eating. She is even giving her brother a run for his money! So far she has scoffed banana, pear, orange, potatoes in all forms, carrots, swede, brocolli, peppers, tomatoes, Weetabix, Rice Crispies, turkey with five spice and ginger, steak, chicken curry, oxtail stew, red rice with feta, cheese sandwich, crumpets and probably loads more that I am forgetting. Here she is enjoying a pitta stick with cashew butter.

I cannot tell you how exciting I am finding this second journey into Baby Led Weaning (not least the improvement that we have seen in the length of time that she will go between feeds in the night now!). I will try to restrain myself from boring you with details of every meal time but please allow me this proud mommy moment as I leave you with one more picture.
See you soon!

Magic Moments

image

Greetings all! Easter is over and spring has well and truly arrived. Lots of little things have been going on around here and I have a hundred posts buzzing in my head so I have decided to do a Magic Moments post to clear my mind and share a few bits and bobs that have been amusing me lately.

image

Most exciting of all has been Little Man turning 3. His birthday was on Sunday and his requests were simple – a picnic, pizza for dinner and cake (‘If me has cakes mees will be happy’, bless him). The only other thing that he asked for was to take his cars and play with them outside at the picnic.

I am pleased to say that we managed to tick everything off his list and a wonderful day was had by all. We chose Packwood House as the location for the picnic. There was the added bonus that the National Trust were once again running the ‘Cadbury Easter Eggsploration’ so entertainment was provided! The day was topped off by a family pizza making party and ended on a high with us all tucking into the amazing cake made by my lovely mommy.

image

The beautiful weather has lured us into the garden a lot more. Last autumn we planted a load of bulbs in the herb pots and these are really coming into their own now.

image

This is the Little Man’s garden. A planter choc a block with spring colour! Over winter it provided a splash of colour in the form of cyclamen, primroses and pansies. Now the bulbs have sprouted and there are so many wonderful blooms to admire. It might not be a very subtle display but the Little Man is very proud of them and loves watching the bees that they are attracting.

image

One of the best things about the warm weather is the opportunity for garden picnics. As you know, we picnic out and about in all weathers but it is only when the sun is shining that we start enjoying as many meals as possible al fresco.

image

Finally, we have crochet! The other week saw me enjoying the luxury of a few hours on a train, alone. The sun was shining, I had downloaded a couple of programmes on catch up and I had my hook in hand. Bliss. There’s not been a lot of hooky action on the blog lately but I have some projects to share and even a few finished items! Making the most of the sunny weather on Monday I tried to photograph a few pieces. So I shall leave you with a picture of my little helper and will be back soon to share some more. Enjoy your own magic moments!

Magic Moments 9/52

Greetings one and all. Okay, I know, this post is 3 weeks late but, as I said yesterday, I shall complete the 52 Weeks of Happy challenge, even if I do get a little behind occasionally. If you have forgotten where it all began, then check out my first Magic Moments post from January here.

FairlawnsDo you remember the fancy meal that we enjoyed for my mom’s 60th birthday? (If not, see here for a reminder!) Well my dad’s birthday is in March so we decided to repeat the experience. As we had an offer for February the celebration was a little early but we didn’t let that bother us and it was all good fun! It was a doubly momentous evening as it was also the first time that we had left the Little Man with a ‘baby sitter’. My dear friend very kindly offered her services so, at 7 o’clock, I fed and placed him in his travel cot before slipping out. We had a wonderful evening, fabulous food and good company. When we got back the Little Man was still snoozing happily, bless him. Since a new born he has been used to being transported during the night so he had no problem resettling when we returned home. Such a special Friday evening but lovely to be back home with my baby!

Bowling

Making the most of the weekend with another offer (we are saving the pennies at the moment!). We enjoyed a family outing, this time to the bowling alley. It was particularly memorable as I scored 100 in the first game which is a personal best. So proud! The Little Man also had a merry time with all the lights and noise, although he was desperate to take a trip down the alley himself.

Blackberries

Sometimes it’s the simple pleasures in life that are the best – a bowl juicy blackberries and natural yoghurt. Delicious. Okay, they’re not in season in Britain but these were reduced in the local shop and the Little Man does love his fruit.

Vege Snack

Afternoon snack time with the Little Man. Our weekends together are so precious and I love sitting at the table with him as he chatters away merrily over his food. He is such wonderful company and is changing and developing all of the time. So precious.

Will be back with my next Magic Moments post soon. xxx

Magic Moments – 8/52

This week seems to have been full of light and colour, probably helped by plenty blue skies. As the germs were banished we grabbed the opportunity to get out there and make the most of the February sun. So here’s what I was enjoying last week:

image

Ah, the sight of freshly laundered towels blowing on the line. Makes my heart sing! I told you before about my new toy, my tumble drier (here), but nothing beats hanging things outside to dry.

image

Beautiful fabrics brightening my day. These were purchased to cover the cupboards in my new classroom and are now bringing a bit of colour into the room and making it feel more my own.

image

A touch of decadence with a box of Indian sweets. I limited myself to two days in school over half-term to try and get my new classroom straight and my lovely mother came in to help. Afterwards we went to purchase the fabric above. Whilst there we popped into the shop next door and she treated us to a selection of barfi. Made from sugar and condensed milk these are pure indulgence!

image

Finally, a chilly picnic on a family day out to Wightwick Manor. Choc full of exquisite Pre-Raphaelite and Arts and Craft pieces this mock Tudor house was a fascinating place to visit. We shall definitely have to go again when the gardens are in full bloom and the light does the facade justice. Relaxing and enjoying each other’s company, we had a wonderful time.

Magic Moments – 7/52

https://rosyhill.wordpress.com/

Hello! How are you? Health seems to have returned to the household and I am glad to report that we are all back in good spirits. Unfortunately the sickiness meant that I just wanted to curl up and hide away so this post is obviously rather late – I am only just squeezing it in before next week’s magic moments are due! – but I am determined to keep up the challenge all year. So here are my happy moments for week 7:

image

Ah, blue skies, how happy have I been to see the return of the sun this week. My lovely sister, Isobel, came to visit the Little Man so we all took a turn around the lakes to blow the cobwebs away. The break in the clouds gives hope that Spring is around the corner but, do not be deceived, it is cold out there!

image

Breakfast in bed and a lie in thanks to my wonderful husband. I always wake up at 7 to feed the Little Man and it is such a luxury to be able to hand him over to my hubby and snuggle back down occasionally. It’s the little things that make me feel so lucky to have him and our lovely family.

image

New bath toys! I spied these when out shopping and could not resist. The Little Man loves bath time and it is well established in our nighttime routine – dinner, bath, feed then bed. Even when we are out and about we try to still give him a little splash about.
image

This photograph is to signify home and the comfort it brings. It represents every time I’ve looked down at my precious Little Man this week and felt overwhelming love and happiness. So many magic moments when he is around.

Enjoy your magic moments this weekend. x

Magic Moments – 6/52

image

Greetings one and all, I hope this post finds you well and happy. As you can see, the snow returned again last night. This is not the thick covering we had a few weeks ago (see here) but rather English snow – grey and slushy, the sort that just makes you cold and damp.

Things have not been dull in our little lives, however, so there have been no shortage of simple pleasures that have made my week a happy one. Before I begin though, I noticed when scrolling though my previous ‘Magic Moments‘ posts that, at the beginning, I credited where I got the idea from but not where it originated. https://rosyhill.wordpress.com/

The inspiration for the 52 weeks challenge came from Jen over at Little Birdie, so go and visit her lovely blog to see where it all began.

Without further ado, let’s see what has been making me happy this week…

image

On Thursday we enjoyed a wonderful visit to Birmingham Sealife Centre. The Little Man and his friend put their new found mobility to good use, inspecting the tanks eagerly and playing merrily in the soft play area whilst my friend and I marvelled at the rich array of sea creatures on display. The soft light and water made the whole experience incredibly relaxing whilst the vibrant colours of the fish and coral were a feast for the eyes.

image

Ah, the simple things are often the most important. My mother has become the proud owner of a new washing machine and tumble drier and kindly gifted the old models to me and my sister. My general standard of housekeeping is pretty low but one job I do enjoy is the laundry (this does not include ironing – life is too short). Since losing my second bedroom to the Little Man, however, I have been struggling to keep on top of it over Winter. I am therefore incredibly grateful to my lovely parents for their generosity.

image

Enjoying a Tequila Sunrise with friends. This weekend was so special as we travelled to Southport to enjoy a ‘Come Dine’ experience (a Tex Mex feast) with former colleagues. Even though people have moved away and we all teach at different schools it is amazing that we can still meet up regularly and it’s like we’ve never been apart.

image

Was it wet? Yes.
Was it cold? Yes.
Is it the middle of Winter? Yes but we were at the beach and it just has to be done! (Incidently, the beach in question was Crosby Beach where we went to see Antony Gormley’s ‘Another Place‘ – a series of lifesize metal men running along 2 km of the coastline and out to sea. It was a wonderful opportunity to see this piece of artwork in the flesh, emerging dramatically from the water as the tide receded, although it has to be said that the Little Man did not enjoy the experience!)

Magic Moments – 5/52

Hello my lovlies, here we are again. Week 5 of 2013 and we’ve moved into the second month of the year. Here are a few highlights of the last 7 days…

image

A wonderful few minutes making the most of the Winter sunshine. A bit wobbly for the first few swings, the Little Man was soon having a great time, giggling madly and wanting to go higher and higher.

Our trip to the playground followed a marvellous swimming trip where he demonstrated that he can now kick and keep himself above the water for minutes when holding onto the side. Clever boy!

image

This is my incredible new teapot and it is making me happy every time I see it. Originally destined for the charity shop my mom rescued it from a friend knowing that I would give it a home. It is now living happily on my dresser and I love it!

image

A very special bit of me time – soaking in the tub, candles lit, iPlayer on and a warm cointreau and drambuie thanks to my darling hubby. Perfect!

image

This week ended on a high as we journeyed up to London. Remember my mom’s 60th birthday back in October? To mark the occasion she chose to fulfil a lifelong ambition – to partake of Afternoon Tea at the Ritz. Dressing up and entering into the spirit of the event, it was a truly magical moment and one I am sure my mother shall not forget.

What has been making you happy this week? x

Magic Moments – 4/52

Oh I do enjoy these posts, scrolling back through photographs and reliving so many magic moments. So here is what has been making me happy this week…

image

A gift from my father-in-law, my beautiful birthday tulips have been making me smile all week. Dazzling white when the sun shines, I just love their simple beauty.

image

On Sunday, I made hubby and I the most amazing sandwich. The remaining haggis (from our Burns Night supper) sprinkled over 1/3 of a baked camembert (the local store selling off Christmas stock) all sandwiched between two pieces of seed-filled bread and toasted on a hot griddle. Incredible!

image

This pile of delights is the result of a shopping trip with my mom and the Little Man. See that charming peacock to the left there? I bet you cannot guess what that box is.

Give up?

That is my newly acquired musical soap box, and I mean that literally. How wonderful is that?! The soap is less than incredible but I am thinking of removing that and using the box as a musical earring chest. There were, however, many intoxicating soaps that we spent far too long sniffing, the best of which I bought to place in my drawers.

image

This week has been full of milestones for the Little Man. All of a sudden he can now crawl (nothing is safe!), pull himself up to standing (he is desperate to walk) and kiss people (awwww!). So many changes in such a short space of time. The first time I looked around to see him standing by the sofa was a truly unforgettable moment.

Wishing you all many moments of happiness this week, xx

Magic Moments – 3/52

Greetings! Apologies that this post is a day late but yesterday was my birthday so celebrating took centre stage! As ever I shall stick by the trusty adage ‘better late than never’ so here are my magic moments for week 3 of 2013:

image

As you know, I do not usually show face-shots on this blog but this photograph just had to be shared. This was minutes after my gorgeous Little Man returned from his first ever trip to the barber. It brings a lump to my throat just thinking about how my darling baby is growing up. Truly magical.

image

This week has been all about the snow, all the more special because it was the Little Man’s first experience of the white stuff.

image

The cold weather makes snuggling up of an evening for a bit of hooky all the more pleasant. My hexighan (see here and here) is temporarily on hold as I have started a new project that has an important deadline. More about that soon!

image

We end with my birthday which was just full of magic. The weather meant that celebrations with friends had to be postponed so it was a quiet affair with the family but none the less enjoyable for it. I had requested fish & chips and cake and was delighted to receive a delicious carrot cake made by my sister as well as those adorable cup cakes from my mother. It was perfect and I felt very special. 🙂

Magic Moments – 2/52

Hello all, lovely to see you here on Rosy Hill. This post has been on my mind a lot lately, whenever I’ve done a little sigh of contentment or laughed merrily at life. How do I choose just 4 special moments in such a fun filled week?

image

1. A spectacular sunrise on our first morning at the loch. Yes, I admit it heralded an atrocious day weatherwise but it started with a moment of peace and awe. I was up early with the Little Man and we were snuggling in the enclosed balcony when my mother joined us with a cup of tea. It was quiet, tranquil and beautiful and we watched for 25 minutes as the sky slowly lightened, the grey becoming tinged with pink until the whole sky was dashed with vivid pinks and oranges.

image

2. Savouring a slice of toffeelicious cake in the adorable Treats Cafe, Kinloch Rannoch. Feeling tired but virtuous after climbing the mountain, the cake tasted all the more amazing for being earned for once.

image

3. A proud moment as the final piece was fitted. It has been a long time since I did a jigsaw and we really got the bug this week – 3 completed in record time. Roll on our 3,000 piece epic journey when we return home!

image

4. Enjoying the feast at Khublai Khan’s Mongolian Restaurant. After 8 years of hearing about how much we love this place, the pressure was on taking my parents and sister there for the first time. We need not have worried – they loved it! So much so we visited on the way to and from Loch Rannoch. We had a fabulous time, as always, with delicious food and wonderful service on both occasions but the real highlight was seeing the Little Man chomp away on wild boar, venison, mixed game, zebra, ostrich, springbok and kangaroo. Not a bad selection for a 9 month old!

I hope you have had many magic moments this week, x
